Deca Durabolin steroid is unique in that 5a -reductase, the enzyme which converts testosterone to the more-potent DHT, actually converts nandrolone to a less-potent compound. Therefore Deca Durabolin is somewhat deactivated in the skin, scalp, and prostate, and these tissues experience an effectively-lower androgen level than the rest of the body. Therefore, for the same amount of activity as another drug at the androgen receptors (ARs) in muscle tissue, Deca Durabolin (steroids) gives less activity in the scalp, skin, and prostate. Thus, it is the best choice for those particularly concerned with these things.

Its effectiveness at the androgen receptor of muscle tissue is superior to that of testosterone: it binds better. Yet, Deca Durabolin gives only about half the muscle-building results per milligram. This I think is a result of its being less effective or entirely ineffective in non-AR-mediated mechanisms for muscle growth. These problems can be solved by combining with a drug that does supply the missing activity: e.g. testosterone.

Deca-durabolin, more commonly known as "Deca" is popularly used to add muscle to wasting AIDS patients which therefore has given it a great reputation in the bodybuilding world as a muscle building steroid. There is a huge strength increase and gym performance is stellar. Deca has a very low rate of aromatization (metabolic conversion to estrogen via the aromatase enzyme), equal to 20% the rate of Testosterone and has been seen in both bulking and cutting cycles alike.

Deca is an anti-inflammatory, improves collagen synthesis and ultimately a joint soother, which is beneficial to athletes who struggle with connective tissue problems.

Deca is safe for female use as well. It is more commonly used in a female’s bulking cycle in hopes to put on muscle for upper levels of competition. Deca has often been found to cause a large amount of water retention as well as aggression and mood swings in female users. There is also a large weight gain (mostly water retention and some fat) associated with its use but it is often over looked because of the intense strength and muscle building effects.

Injections are typically spaced apart by a week, regardless of total dose because of its long lasting half-life. A typical recommended cycle is 10-12 weeks in length.
